Greetings! I wanted to touch base and give you all a much-deserved update. I have been missing my blog since last week, and I didn’t have time to write my latest “Sounds of Summer” entry. Time got away from me due to some personal stressors, but also because my mom and sister came into town this past weekend. It was great to see them and my niece and nephews 🙂
First, the sad news: I will be putting my “Lessons to Practice” series on hold for all of August. I’m currently in the process of leaving one job and applying for others, which means long bouts of resume editing and cover letter writing. Thought it’s been a lot of work, I’m confident that I’ll get a new job soon.
Second, an update on my new vlog series. I’m going to begin my “Honest Bachelor’s Life” series tomorrow with an introductory video. I have been struggling to get Corel VideoStudio to work with me (deep sigh), but I’m confident that I should have my second video rendered and ready by this weekend.
As for my personal creative writing, I’ve been flagging on that front, too. However, it hasn’t solely been because of me changing jobs; I’m also spending more time with a new friend. He and I have been running and reading together, and I’m happy to report that I started reading a new book called South of Broad, by Pat Conroy. No other book in recent memory has helped me to feel so at peace and proud of my uncanny empathy and emotionality. Leo King, the story’s protagonist, reminds me so much of myself that I feel like Pat Conroy and I went through so many similar life events growing up. Conroy’s eye for the vigor and humility of youth, as well as the ethereal beauty and racial fault lines of 1960s Charleston, takes my breath away. If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and pick up this wonderful coming-of-age story.
I hope you all are having a great week and even more success with your own blogs. Until next time, take care!
